SUMMARY:Class 1: Drawing with Perspective | Galleria Dante
DESCRIPTION:Let’s draw 3D scenes in 2D by free hand. We study the point\, line and space as instruments for creation. Learn to sketch as a starting point to a drawing\, painting or idea\, with an emphasis on adding 3D perspective. \nAs a trained architect\, Ricardo teaches how sketching with pencil as a starting point for artistic expression will allow you to polish your idea or concept before committing. To learn perspective drawing\, we will start with understanding the basic concepts like vanishing points and horizon lines\, which help create the illusion of depth on a flat surface. Practicing with simple shapes\, such as boxes\, and gradually moving to more complex scenes will enhance your skills. Learn to draw your lines to one or many vanishing points to stretch the perspective of your drawing. Sketching and drawing are critical skills for representing your ideas before painting watercolors. \nThis is Class 1 of a six-class series\, with each class building on the previous one. Experienced watercolor artists are welcomed in all classes. Students who attend both Classes 1 and 2 will receive a complimentary 3-hour “plein air” painting session with Ricardo on Friday\, December 18th\, from 11 AM to 2 PM. \nALL PROFESSIONAL MATERIALS INCLUDED.

SUMMARY:Class 2: Introduction to Watercolor | Galleria Dante
DESCRIPTION:Discover watercolor as a painting technique by learning about color theory\, the object and the abstraction\, the brushstroke and the watersplash. We will paint flowers so we can allow a more spontaneous use of the pigments as a non-threatening approach to learning watercolor. \nWatercolor painting is a method where pigments are suspended in a water-based solution\, creating translucent and vibrant artwork. It is a technique feared by many and it is called the “chess” of painting since the artist must think in advance. But Ricardo makes this challenge approachable. He will guide you through the entire process of creating watercolors. Ricardo will walk through creating your own color wheel to understand color mixing. He will cover types of paper and basic mounting techniques like wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry\, controlling the water\, and he will help students overcome common fears while embracing mistakes. \nThis is Class 2 of a six-class series\, with each class building on the previous one.

SUMMARY:Class 3: Drawing and Composition | Galleria Dante
DESCRIPTION:How do you start a painting? Specifically\, how do you decide the placement or composition of the objects on the paper canvas? What to maximize and what to minimize in our perspective? This class will help answer these questions. \nRicardo will teach a method of starting your watercolor by losing your hand and drawing with scribbles. Learn about auxiliary lines and axis’s beyond a straight grid and how to arrange your space/paper based on these grids. Ricardo will also introduce the Value studio. \nLearn how to consider the composition of different elements in your painting. Proper composition of a drawing helps to make your painting more dynamic and less static. The composition of elements can help you share a narrative to your painting. \nThis is Class 3 of a six-class series\, with each class building on the previous one. Experienced watercolor artists are welcomed in all classes. Students who attend both Classes 3 and 4 will receive a complimentary 3-hour “plein air” painting session with Ricardo on Friday\, February 19th\, from 11 AM to 2 PM. \nALL PROFESSIONAL MATERIALS INCLUDED.

SUMMARY:Class 4: Watercolor - Humans & Animals | Galleria Dante
DESCRIPTION:Let’s paint characters\, from simple and abstract shapes. Drawing and painting humans and animals can be a unique challenge. Proportion\, context\, movement and shadows must all be considered and studied before starting our watercolor. \nLearn about the art of observation and abstraction for drawing. We will discuss measurements from general to specific. We will practice gesture drawing\, a rapid approach for the representation of the human body and animals. We will learn about measuring the drawing with a based object\, so we control the proportion and ensure our result looks as real as possible. \nDrawing is very important because we are building the structure of our object on paper; this drawing must have proportion and the correct sensation of movement. Finally\, we will be able to make a study of light and shade through creating monochromatic studies. \nThis is Class 4 of a six-class series\, with each class building on the previous one.

SUMMARY:Class 5: Watercolor - Los Muertos | Galleria Dante
DESCRIPTION:This class will be a celebration of the Muertos tradition where the dead return to their previous lives as the veil between worlds lifts every November 1st. We will paint our own Muertos character to commemorate this special Mexican tradition. \nLearn Ricardo’s method of taking a photo of a human as reference and transforming it into a skeleton with anatomic drawings. We will also take time for remembrance to show how painting death can make us grateful for life. \nPlease bring your own reference photo of any person to inspire your Muertos creation. Because of the amount of time\, we will focus on drawing and painting the head and upper part of the body. We will learn about the drawing of a skull based on simple shapes and how\, as artists\, we can shape and detail our drawing until we have the result that we want. With watercolor\, we will represent light and shadows and decorate our Muertos figure. \nThis is Class 5 of a six-class series\, with each class building on the previous one. Experienced watercolor artists are welcomed in all classes. Students who attend both Classes 5 and 6 will receive a complimentary 3-hour “plein air” painting session with Ricardo on Friday\, March 19th\, from 11 AM to 2 PM. \nALL PROFESSIONAL MATERIALS INCLUDED.

SUMMARY:Class 6: Watercolor - Architecture | Galleria Dante
DESCRIPTION:In this final class\, we appreciate and represent the architecture that surrounds us via watercolor. Observation as a technique is critical because what we paint is not an exact copy\, but our representation in watercolor. We will draw our 3D spaces with simple lines and with a full understanding of what we see and how we want to present it. Perspective and composition will also be given additional study. \nWe will review the concepts of light and darkness applied in architectural design to help us build volume. We will talk about color theory and how to apply it in your painting considering value\, hue and chroma. Value helps to get contrast and differentiate the elements of our composition. Hue and chroma are useful to give depth to our scene with the correct order of colors. Finally\, we will learn how to represent humans and vegetation in a schematic level\, so we can give context and scale to the scenes that we paint. \nThis is Class 6 of a six-class series\, with each class building on the previous one.
