The Journey

Ricardo Sánchez Corona is a Mexican Indigenous artist who grew up working with his parents and brothers in the chinampas (Aztec agricultural islands) of Xochimilco, south of Mexico City. His father is Mazahua and his mother is Otomi.

From an early age, he observed and appreciated the small details and colors of life around him. In the rare moments of free time from farming and school responsibilities, he would draw and paint life as he saw it.

He earned the opportunity to study architecture at UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico).

He went to university and worked for six years as a draftsman and assistant for an architectural firm in west Mexico City.

In early 2020, he started what was supposed to be a brief post-graduation trip to Baja California. He was in the little pueblo of Mulegé, BC in February when the world shut down due to COVID-19.

After spending weeks there with little to do, he remembered his watercolor set he had packed. As he painted throughout the little pueblo, locals and expats became very interested and excited about his work. He was commissioned for many paintings and murals.

Ricardo discovered his true passion was art, and returning to an architectural desk no longer seemed important.

Since 2020, he has traveled throughout Mexico and has successfully combined his passion for watercolor with his skills in architecture and his love of Mexican cultures and traditions.

Every October, he releases his annual “Día de los Muertos” collection. He also participates in art fairs and competitions throughout Mexico year-round.

He has had many solo and joint exhibitions. His work has been displayed in the National Watercolor Museum of Mexico, and he has received many honors and recognitions.

Ricardo lives with his partner near Guadalajara, Mexico, and continues to deepen his passion and refine his skills in watercolor. He teaches classes for all ages and skill levels.

His work is also available for purchase and shipped worldwide at Galleria Dante.

His journey and career have just started — follow along as it continues to unfold.
